Wednesday Practice Session (weekly)
Regular location: Eviama Life Spa** (please see below for directions)
This hour-long mid-week practice session generally begins with a brief reading and/or guided meditation from the Thich Nhat Hanh tradition, followed by silent sitting meditation and Dharma sharing (a chance to share together about our experience of practicing mindfulness). Folks are welcome to contact us first to let us know to expect you, or just drop by any Wednesday a bit before 5:45pm, whichever is most supportive to you.
The first Wednesday of each month, after sitting meditation, we recite the Five Mindfulness Trainings, with an optional extended Dharma sharing period from 6:45-7:15.
Sunday Practice Session
This practice session, held at rotating locations in Center City Philadelphia, generally includes: Sitting meditation; walking meditation; reading and/or other practice from the Thich Nhat Hanh Tradition; & Dharma sharing.
Reading of The 14 Mindfulness Trainings of the Order of Interbeing
2nd Tuesday of each month, 5:30-6:30pm (through September, 2013)
Last Wednesday of each month, 8-8:50am (September, 2013 on)
The 14 Mindfulness Trainings for Engaged Buddhism are the precepts of the Order of Interbeing, the Tiep Hien Order, the core community of monastics and laypeople practicing worldwide in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. Many people practice these trainings beautifully and powerfully without ever receiving formal transmission, and this recitation is open to and welcomes everyone.
**Directions to Eviama: 109 S.13th Street (between Chestnut and Sansom), 2nd floor, Philadelphia, 19107. You will find the entrance on the East side of 13th street, between the “Open House” store and Zio’s pizza. There is a sign board outside on the sidewalk. To enter, dial #300 on the intercom. You will be buzzed in. Walk straight back and turn left to the elevator. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Coming out of the elevator, turn left, and almost immediately left again. Go through the glass door (with a wood statue of Avalokiteshvara just inside). You will pass through an open area with plants and sky! You will come to another door in front of you, with stone lions to each side of it. Go in. Turn left. Not far from this entrance (before you reach the reception area), there will be a bench where you’re asked to leave your shoes, and if you like your bags (you may choose to bring valuables into the meditation room with you; the room is cozy, so please leave what you can in this outer area of the spa.) You will also find coat hooks for your jacket. Once you have left your things, please enjoy walking down the hall, all the way back, past the reception area and past the doors to treatment rooms. The entrance to the practice room will be in front of you, all the way at the end of the hall. (Please maintain caring silence so as not to disturb those in the treatment rooms.) May you enjoy each moment of your journey to this beautiful space of practice!
